To ensure that your silk kimono is well taken care of, we recommend taking it to a professional dry cleaner who has experience in handling delicate silk fabrics. However, if you choose to hand wash your kimono, please be aware that you do so at your own risk.
Here are some steps to follow if you decide to hand wash your kimono:
Fill a bucket with cool water.
If needed, add a small drop of mild, non-alkaline detergent or baby shampoo to the water and stir gently.
Place your kimono in the bucket and gently swirl it around for a minute or two, taking care not to scrub or leave it in the water for too long.
Carefully rinse the kimono to remove any suds.
Air dry your kimono outdoors on a hanger, away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry or iron.
Please note that if your kimono has a dark or red lining, we advise against hand washing it, as the color may bleed and stain the exterior.
